The Streak is Over. Long Live The Streak.
Well, folks, it was a beautiful run. Six straight wins, a climb to the top of the standings, the kind of mid-season surge that gets you dreaming of shiny hardware. But as the old saying goes, all good things (and winning streaks) must come to an end. Petty Theft Row split a crucial doubleheader this Saturday, proving that even the hottest teams can have a wobble.
First up, a showdown with familiar rivals, @The Traffic. This was always going to be a tough one, and it certainly played out that way. The Row dropped a tight 7-5 decision @The Traffic @ Petty Theft Row (Aug 08). Look, a two-run loss stings. It’s the kind of game where you replay every single at-bat, every single throw, wondering where those two crucial runs went. It snapped our impressive six-game winning streak and knocked us down a peg in the standings. Sometimes you just run into a buzzsaw, and @The Traffic, now sitting pretty at 8-2, have been exactly that for much of the season.
But here’s the thing about this team, about Petty Theft Row: they don't stay down for long. We dusted ourselves off and squared up against @The Lobsters in the second half of the doubleheader. And what a response it was. The Row clawed out a hard-fought 9-8 victory @The Lobsters @ Petty Theft Row (Aug 08). A one-run win. That’s the kind of game that builds character, that shows grit, that reminds everyone that this team can still get it done when the pressure cooker is on full blast. It wasn’t a blowout, it wasn’t easy, but it was a W, and that’s what counts.
So, where does that leave us? After this weekend’s split, Petty Theft Row now holds a 7-2 record. We're still right there, sitting in third place. @Beast, as expected, continues their reign of terror, now an unblemished 8-0 after dismantling @The Warriors 22-5 and shutting out @Saturday Free Agent Team 2 14-0. Seriously, @Beast is just playing a different game right now. @The Traffic, with their win against us and a 20-6 rout of @Los Cerdos, jumped up to second place at 8-2.
Elsewhere in the league, it was an eventful Saturday. @Fattened Calves tied @The Hit List 6-6 in one nail-biter, then bounced back to crush @Scrappys 20-5. @The Warriors, despite their drubbing by @Beast, also managed a solid 15-5 win over @The Lobsters. It’s a tight race in the middle of the pack, with @Fattened Calves (6-3-1), @The Lobsters (6-4), and @The Warriors (5-4) all battling for position. Even @Saturday Free Agent Team 2 managed to squeak out a one-run victory over @Diamond Dogs, 15-14, which goes to show you anything can happen on any given Saturday.
Next week, Petty Theft Row is back on the diamond to face @The Warriors. They're a team that just got smacked by @Beast but also put up 15 runs against @The Lobsters. We've got to make sure we bring our A-game. It’s a chance to start a new winning streak, to consolidate our position, and to keep those playoff hopes burning bright. Because in this league, you're only as good as your next game. Let's go, Row!
